Jenny Berkel - These Are The Sounds Left From Leaving

After several years spent quietly working on music and poems, Jenny Berkel returns with These Are the Sounds Left from Leaving, out May 13 via Outside Music. Written in a tiny apartment in the midst of political, environmental, and (dis)information chaos, the songs themselves are a study of proximity, bringing big anxieties into small spaces; they are intimate examinations of a world that often overwhelms. Musically, the album reflects this dichotomy — it feels both close and expansive. At times, songs end with an unravelling, the music splintering apart into disintegration. The album features contributions from critically acclaimed folk duo Kacy & Clayton, and string arrangements by Colin Nealis (Andy Shauf). Co-produced by Berkel, Dan Edmonds, and Ryan Boldt (The Deep Dark Woods), this new album is simultaneously warm and dark, sharp and soft, and is evidence of a songwriter deeply immersed in poetry.
